"Upon it sat a shape, black-mantled, huge and threatening. A crown of steel he bore, but between rim and robe naught was there to see, save only a deadly gleam of eyes: the Lord of the Nazgûl... now he was come again, bringing ruin, turning hope to despair, and victory to death. A great black mace he wielded. " - The Return of the King, "The Battle of the Pelennor Fields".

The Witch-King's Helmet was worn by the Lord of the Nazgûl, the Black Captain, Lord of Minas Morgul who is better known as the Witch-King of Angmar. He was possibly an ancient Númenorean Lord or King who slowly but surely fell to the will of Sauron after he received a Ring of Power by the Lord of Gifts; Annatar.

After Sauron's first defeat in the War of the Last Alliance, the Lord of the Nazgûl lay low for approximately 1000 years until he reappeard in the evil realm of Angmar, where he got his title "the Witch-King of Angmar" and ruled over this rough and dark realm for over 600 years until the very downfall of the Númenórean line of Kings of Arnor.

Eventually, the Witch-King returned to Mordor to facilitate Sauron's return to power. It was him who conquered the great citadel of Gondor; Minas Ithil. He later reforged the citadel to be his base and evil city of Minas Morgul.

Being the Chief-lieutenant of the Dark Lord, it was the Witch-King who led Sauron's armies during the War of the Ring, stabbed Frodo Baggins on Weathertop, and at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields he besieged and broke the gates of Minas Tirith, killing King Théoden of Rohan during the process.

Chief lieutenant and greatest servant to the Dark Lord for over four thousand years of Middle-Earth history, he was a great King, a vast and legendary warrior and an undying sorcerer of incomparable fear and dread. During his hour at the Pelennor, however, he was killed by Meriadoc Brandybuck and Éowyn, niece of Théoden, at the end of the War of the Ring.
