The Sceptre of Annúminas was the chief mark of royalty in the Northern kingdom of Arnor in Eriador during the Third Age.

It was a silver rod originally borne by the Lords of Adúnië in Númenor. It was also patterned after the sceptre of the King of Númenor. The Sceptre of the king however, was lost together with Ar-Pharazôn during the fall of Númenor. That is when Elendil, the last Lord alive of Adúnië, took the Sceptre of Annúminas and came to Middle-Earth. He found 2 kingdoms, the Kingdom of Gondor and the Kingdom of Arnor.

The Kings of Gondor wore a gorgeous crown and the Kings of Arnor bore the Sceptre. From that day it was named the Sceptre of Annúminas, the original capital of the North-Kingdom. During the fall of Arnor, the sceptre and other heirlooms were kept at Rivendell, home of Lord Elrond.

At the end of the Third Age, the Sceptre was the oldest artifact of Men. Lord Elrond brought the Sceptre to Minas Tirith and gave it to Aragorn, King Elessar of the Reunited Kingdom of Gondor and Arnor.
