"Very bright was that sword when it was made whole again; the light of the sun shone redly in it, and the light of the moon shone cold, and its edge was hard and keen. And Aragorn gave it a new name and called it Andúril, Flame of the West."

Andúril, also known as The Flame of the West is the reforged sword of Aragorn II Elessar, King of Gondor and Arnor in the Third and Fourth Age.

After the Council of Elrond, the Elves of Rivendell reforged together the shards of the Legendary sword, Narsil. Elrond gave it to Aragorn before he went in the mountains to confront the King of the Dead so he and his army would join and aid Gondor against the armies of Mordor.

History of the Blade[]

Andúril was first called Narsil and was wielded by High-King Elendil, he used it in the Battle of Dagorlad to rally his men to him. But that is when Sauron emerged and kills both him and Gil-Galad. Isildur is the one who rushed to Elendil's aid, in desperate hope he'd still be alive, but it was already too late.

Isildur picks up Narsil to fight the Dark Lord but it was futile, Sauron knocked Isildur down and stomped on the blade, shattering it into several pieces. Sensing victory, Sauron reaches for Isildur to finish him off, but Isildur, unbowed, manages to use the hilt of Narsil and what remained of it's broken blade to cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand. That is when Sauron, the enemy of the free peoples of Middle-Earth, was defeated and the Battle of Dagorlad was victorious for the Last Alliance.
